The program titled “Phlebotomy Technician” will provide instruction in the proper technique of how to collect blood samples using venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures. Non-blood specimen collections are also discussed. Instruction will include how to properly and safely use needles, lancets, and butterflies to collect samples, as well as the different types of collection tubes to use for the appropriate tests. Basic specimen preparation, other student (students) interactions, and confidentiality issues are addressed. OSHA readiness and OSHA Compliance will be covered.

A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course. The course objective is to prepare students to gain employment as entry-level phlebotomists. Students successfully completing the course are eligible to sit for a certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association. Clock hours are non-transferable. Classes will be offered monthly for ten (10) months a year.

This Phlebotomy Technician program is designed to impart knowledge in technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy, including a collection of blood specimens and venipuncture required to become a Phlebotomy technician.

The Phlebotomy Technician program includes theory and hands-on instruction. The program will teach students the concepts of:

  • Phlebotomy Equipment & Supplies
  • Phlebotomy Procedures
  • Phlebotomy Fundamental Essentials

This program is designed for learners who want to advance their careers or are interested in starting a career in the medical field to become a phlebotomy technician.

As with any postsecondary educational program, there are minimum requirements established to ensure that you have the basic knowledge required to interact, comprehend, and be successful in an entry-level educational environment.
